For the second consecutive year, the Sycamore High School band was named state champions in its class at the USBands Southern States Championship.

The band participated in the national competition on Nov. 4 in Chattanooga.

In addition to winning the top award in the Class III Open division, the band won Best Percussion, Best Music and High General Effect to earn a spot in the finals.

“I am very proud of the Sycamore band students. They represented themselves and the community well and performed admirably. It has been truly humbling to see these members overcome so much to showcase their art and passion. I feel very fortunate to work with some of the best students in the state. They have shown such grit and resilience. It was truly a special day for us,” said band director Andrew Gaskill.

The theme of this year’s show was “How Sweet It Is.”
